A Pioneer in Turkish TTS & AI Voice
I’m Selcuk Birdal, a Turkish voice actor with a unique journey at the intersection of voice artistry and AI technology. In fact, as one of the earliest pioneers in Turkish Text-to-Speech (TTS) voice technology, my recordings have powered major platforms and global products since 2008.
My journey began with SVOX in 2008, when I traveled to Zurich, Switzerland, to record my voice. Firstly, this work laid the foundation for one of the first high-quality TTS voices for the Turkish language, and from there, my voice was distributed to global tech leaders.

My long-standing collaboration with Mercedes-Benz evolved significantly with the introduction of their new AI-powered voice assistant, “Hey Mercedes.” This groundbreaking system, which was officially announced in 2018 and first appeared in 2019 A-Class models, integrates my voice recordings into a state-of-the-art AI. This marks a true pioneering role in the world of Turkish AI voice technology. Over a decade earlier, in 2009, I traveled to Stuttgart, Germany, where I became the official voice for the Mercedes-Benz Turkish Navigation System. My voice has been a core component of Apple’s TTS technology for Turkish since its introduction. It is still used as the standard Turkish TTS voice named “Cem” on Apple computers and iPhones. This is a testament to the enduring quality of my voice in the world of smart technology.
